Fine & Dandy Hurricane Sandy

The joy of living on an island in the deep blue sea
is the opportunity to prepare for and weary though
hurricanes.

I grew up in California.
Living through earthquakes was my one with nature.
But hurricanes are all new to Brent & I.

This year we met a new friend,
Sandy,
the hurricane that paraded the eastern side of our country.
Spending majority of her time in New York, Jew Jersey, Connecticut and others.

Fortunately, we only got the tail end of it.
We had places that flooded, electrical shortages for a few hours,
wind, rain, and storm.

But thankfully we were safe and watched over.

The next day, Maybeline and I decided to see the damage.
Curious to see just what  a hurricane can do.

The waves at South Beach were huge!
We could hear their roar and rumble all the way from our home.
We live about 6 miles away.

It reminded me just what nature can do.
And how powerful it is.

Our friends who live about a mile away from South Beach
said they could feel their house shake
from the vibrations of the waves crashing.

A scary feeling for sure.

The craziest sight was at State Beach
in Oak Bluffs.

The beaches were almost flip flopped.
Seaweed everywhere.
Sand piled high.
Fences broken.

Here's a good shot,
State Beach before
(taken in September):

And after the hurricane:

It was about a foot thick in some places.
The true bonus was the day after it passed
we had a warm tropical breeze roll by
for the day.

It was as if we were in the Caribbean.
(Dreamy.)

There were a lot of people who lended a helping hand
to those who were hit badly.
Here's a beautiful video of what some of those people did

  1. What I love the most is Maybeline's simplicity... She is a little angel... So satisfied to just explore and enjoy and learn and love... Such a sweetheart!

  2. Totally agree with Mom. She's an explorer. Such a rare thing in kids these days. I say good job to the mama that teaches that and doesn't hand her an electronic device. Haha Enjoy nature! Love her!
